This tracker covers enacted state and city laws that put AI-specific or automated-decision duties on private organizations, plus state privacy laws that give residents rights over automated profiling. It does not cover deepfake, likeness and election laws, laws that govern only government agencies or schools, or federal law. It is a curated set of key laws, not every AI-related bill.
A December 2025 executive order directed the Justice Department to challenge state AI laws in court. None listed here has been struck down, so plan as though they apply. Read more
